Chester Nez

Chester is a 92 year old code talker from world war two. He and 38 other men created the Navajo code which was used in the war. this was the only unbroken code that was used against Japan. This code was never written down and cannot be learned. When he was five he had worked on his grandma's farm and herding sheep he was a normal boy until he started school. He was forced not to use his language. So when he got to the army and went through training he was given a mission. He was told to use his language and was puzzled. All of his life he was told not to use it and now he could? With that they were to create a code that was unbreakable. It took them thirteen weeks but it was well worth it. His group fought in many battle and they succeeded greatly. He served in the army for four years and used the code in all four. In the beginning the code was a challenge but it was mastered and was never doubted in the war. It was never used in any other war. "The thing I missed the most was herding sheep in my home town. It was something I always did until the war." said Chester. He also encountered 700 of his sheep being herded into a hole and burned, this was a big turning point in his life because his family had build the herd from a few sheep to a thousand. He was also treated like a normal Human and not classified as a Native American and that he was different because of that. It made him proud to serve America.
